Writing and rereading it today took me back to the benighted days before women were taken seriously as artists. I think that's changing now. At least, I sure hope it is. And you in particular seem to be an artist who goes her own way and does well.Michele Hushhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16979878503237070839noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8574271952579140160.post-78930985187243935202014-11-15T10:01:51.131-05:002014-11-15T10:01:51.131-05:00Discovering Georgia O'Keefe was liking discove...Discovering Georgia O'Keefe was liking discovering a portal into my own soul. She changed everything for me and I still have a huge poster of her that I carry everywhere with me (even named my youngest daughter after her). Her fierce independence and ferocious creativity as a woman in her times opened the way through a male dominated art world like Moses parting the sea! Emily Carr is her Canadian contemporary of that same uncompromising female vision and energy. Then I distinctly remember discovering a book on the Dinner Party in the suburban library where I was working on a high school project. I sat on the floor going through every single page, mesmerized for hours. I then went and looked up every single participant at that dinner party and my whole world changed as I discovered that there actually was another historical perspective and it sounded a lot more interesting and related to my own experiences then what I had been learning in school. Judy Chicago and Georgia O'Keefe are both huge in my psyche and formative years. I have yet to visit the Dinner Party in Brooklyn and it is definitely on my bucket list. Thanks for this great post Michele, very meaningful to me.Holly Friesenhttp://www.hollyfriesen.comnoreply@blogger.com
